چکیده

Iatrogenic uterine perforation due to initial overinflation of the Kronner uterine manipulator balloon through the balloon port is previously unreported. A 37-year-old multipara with a 1 year history of dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and post coital spotting desired permanent sterilization following 9 years of copper intrauterine device (IUD) use. At the onset of the procedure a Kronner uterine manipulator was placed and inadvertently inflated with 30 ml instead of 10 ml of air. Upon insertion of the laparoscope for laparoscopic tubal sterilization a 1 cm diameter perforation of the uterine fundus was noted. Hemostasis was achieved by bipolar cauterization, following which the intended procedure was completed. We believe that the iatrogenic uterine perforation was caused by overinflation of the intrauterine balloon of the Kronner uterine manipulator, in a uterus whose fundus was already weakened from 9 years of IUD use. While intrauterine balloons placed for gynecologic or obstetrical hemostasis may be inflated from 30 to 300 ml, overinflation of a uterine manipulator balloon in nonhemorrhagic situations can cause uterine perforation.

I-23: Hysteroscopic Complications

Hysteroscopic complications are infrequent. Major complications include: 1. Uterine perforation that is the most common complication of operative hysteroscopy (0.8 - 1.6 %). The perforation rate is less during diagnostic hysteroscopy. 2. Bowel or bladder injury which is rare, but may occur in association with uterine perforation or as a result of use of electrical current. 3. Cervical laceratio...

A Case of Uterine Perforation with A Colouterine Fistula Due to Rectal Cancer

Background: Uterine perforation is a rare condition that occurs spontaneously and with less prevalence in intestinal diseases, including malignancies. Case Presentation: A 61-year-old woman with a history of the rectal tumor was referred due to acute abdominal pain, and pyometra was detected caused by uterine-colon fistula. During surgery, uterine perforation was observed, and the patient was ...

Iatrogenic uterine perforation with abdominal extrusion of fetal parts: a rare radiological diagnosis.

BACKGROUND Failure to detect uterine perforation during surgical abortion may result in adverse patient outcome besides having medicolegal implications. This rare case of uterine perforation was diagnosed seven days after abortion and underscores the importance of remaining vigilant for this complication during and after the procedure. CASE A female underwent surgical abortion at sixteen week...

A Novel Uterine Manipulator Incorporating Non-local Controls and Lateral Motion

The work described in this paper was driven by a clinical need for a better uterine manipulator during laparoscopic gynecological procedures, including both hysterectomy and hysteroscopy. The primary purpose of the device is to provide a convenient means for the operator to position the patient’s uterus from outside the body. Currently available manipulators are not adequate in two key respects...

Antepartum Uterine Rupture Occurring at the Site of a Peviously Repaired Dilatation and Curettage-Induced Perforation: A Case Report.

The uterine rupture during pregnancy is a catastrophic condition resulting in both maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. It occurs in nearly 1% of patients with previous cesarean sections. However, uterine rupture at the site of previous iatrogenic perforation which is spontaneously healed or repaired is less reported. We present a 29-year-old woman, gravida 3 para 1, at 20 weeks of g...
